The fountain was erected in honor of the Waldsee resident Elisabeth Achler, "the good Beth".

A fountain was erected on the winding Gut-Betha-Platz between the collegiate church and the Franciscan convent in honor of the Waldsee resident Elisabeth Achler - known everywhere as "the blessed Good Beth".
Elisabeth Achler was born in 1386 as the daughter of a Waldsee flax weaver. Konrad Kügelin, the then provost of the Chorherrnstift, recognized early on in the growing girl a special "purity, purity and simplicity of heart". Since the farmhands and maids in the Achlerhaus "according to the world habit used to deal with words, singing and swearing and such things," Elisabeth was taken into the care of a pious woman at the age of 14, from whom she learned to work and weave. At 17 she moved into the Franciscan convent in Reute, which Provost Konrad Kügelin had built especially for her and other nuns. Elisabeth led the pious life of a mystic. She died at the age of 34.
Konrad Kügelin was her father confessor to the end. After her death he became her biographer. Soon after the nun's death, countless pilgrims made the pilgrimage to Reute to honor the good Beth, the miracle worker of Upper Swabia. In 1766 Elisabeth Achler was beatified. The pilgrimage church in nearby Reute is still the destination of many pilgrims. There, in the base of the Gut-Betha altar, the glass coffin with the mortal remains of the nun is kept.

The Gut-Betha fountain is located directly in front of the collegiate church. Various seating areas invite you to take a break.
