In the town of Vordingborg lies the so-called Goose Tower (Gåsetårnet), the best-preserved castle tower in the country, and the symbol of the town of Vordingborg.Vordingborg was once the center of political and military power, where legendary kings such as Valdemar the Great, Valdemar Sejr, and Valdemar Atterdag resided. The first castle was built around 1160. In 1241, the so-called Jyske Lov (Constitution) was signed here, and in the years around 1360, Valdemar Atterdag built the famous Gåsetårn, which still stands today as part of the castle ruins. The castle was the largest in the country, and the Goose Tower was one of a total of nine towers. The golden goose on the tower spire was a symbol of mockery against the German Hanseatic League. At the time, the Hanseatic League was at war with King Valdemar Atterdag, who wanted to use the goose to express that he had more respect for a flock of quacking geese than for the Hanseatic League.cphcoastandcountryside.de/de/touristeninformation-daenemarks-brugencenter-gdk615137
