The Luther oak was planted on the occasion of the 400th birthday of the reformer Martin Luther by the innkeeper August Wägner on November 10, 1883 near the sheep grate at what is now the Luther Eichenhöhe. Since the Galgenberg was still partly forested with oaks until 1860, the oak was chosen as a symbol.
