Premium Cycle Path Wüstenbrand–Küchwald

A beautiful cycle path, perhaps a little "over-maintained" because the sweepers and maintenance crews drive more often than on the road. Only the section between Riedstrasse and Rudolf-Krahl-Strasse is really finished, only the bridge over Kalkstrasse has not yet been started, or was it a victim of the "red pen"?! Instead, Kalkstrasse was narrowed so much at this point that car traffic is significantly slowed down, although a traffic light crossing just 100 metres earlier would have ensured cyclist safety!So let's wait and see when the "Wüstenbrand - Küchwald Premium Cycle Path" celebrates its final completion. There is no date to be found in the relevant media, let's hope that it is not an "unfinished" one!

Two construction phases begin on the former railway line.
The city of Chemnitz received funding totaling more than 8.6 million euros for the construction of the Wüstenbrand – Küchwald premium cycle path.
The grant can be used to build construction phase 3.0 from Kalkstraße to Rudolf-Krahl-Straße and construction phase 2.1 from Riedstraße to Kalkstraße. Construction phase 2.1 also includes a striking bridge construction to seamlessly cross Kalkstrasse.
With the acquisition of the former Küchwald - Wüstenbrand railway line in October 2018, planning for its use as a cycle path was pushed forward. The planning of the premium cycle path on the 13.447 kilometer long former railway line is divided into four main sections with respective subsections. The first construction phase runs from Wüstenbrand to Grüna, the second from Grüna to Kalkstrasse (of which construction phase 2.1 runs from Riedstrasse to Kalkstrasse with a bridge). In the third construction phase, construction will take place from Kalkstraße to Paul-Jäckel-Straße (construction phase 3.0: from Kalkstraße to Rudolf-Krahl-Straße). The fourth construction phase includes the section from Paul-Jäckel-Straße to Küchwald.
