The name Paardenburg has probably existed since 1649. In that year Pieter Meffert became the owner of the buildings and gave the farm the name "Paardenburg". It was not until 1693 that the name Paardenburg was used for the first time in connection with gastronomy. The origin and development of the name are closely linked to the advent of the railway ship in the 17th century. The current building dates from 1702. Paardenburg is located in the so-called 'Buurt over Ouderkerk', a protected village view.
