A sea eagle circles over deep blue water, the trees to the left and right of the cobblestone avenue cast thick shadows, and when you have crossed the small bridge to the island in Schaalsee, on the left you can see the red bridge house and in the distance in the park the manor house, this seems the perfect place to forget the world's problems.

The poet Gottlieb Klopstock described the island as an “island of happy solitude” after a visit in his ode “Stintenburg” in 1767. It is hard to imagine that German history, with all its shallows, is focused right here on the 400 meter long and maximum 190 meter wide island like in a magnifying glass.
