Bike Touring Highlight
The "Mouse Tower" in Hengsteysee is located in the urban area of Hagen. The tower is the remainder of a pedestrian suspension bridge from the Villa Niedernhof on the north bank of Herdeck to the former south bank of the Ruhr with the former knight's residence Haus Niedernhofen in Hengstey. Since the damming of the river to Hengsteysee, the building no longer stands on the shore but is surrounded on all sides by water. The small island with the tower serves as a breeding ground and quarters for birds and bats.

The Mouse Tower is one of originally two towers. Around 1900, the homeowner at the time, Wilhelm Funke, had the towers built with a bridge so that he could quickly cross the Ruhr on the way to his screw factory. Of course, the Hengsteysee did not exist at that time, which is why the old course of the Ruhr is made clear by this tower.
