The name "Soldiers' Trench" has its origins in the time when the Landgrave Castle was besieged (Seven Years' War 1756-1763). The besiegers entrenched themselves behind the Dammelsberg at the soldiers' ditch.

Unspectacularly, but abundantly, the water pours from a plastic pipe into the ditch at the side of the road. What dams I could have built there as a child! The Soldatenborn is one of the five Ockerhäuser springs (i.e., Dorfbrunnen, Heiliger Grund, Dreyers Quelle, and Wäldchesborn).
