    "...On November 22, 1944, the tower of the Sint-Fabianus En Sebastianuskerk was blown up by the Germans. The devastation was enormous. The church of Sevenum was in ruins and could not be restored. After the war, the church ruins were demolished and between An archaeological soil survey was carried out on the ancient foundations of the predecessors of this church, and here an important discovery was made: a wooden barrel pit consisting of a hollowed-out oak tree trunk was found between the ancient foundations at a depth of 230 cm.
    In her book Heidens Nederland (1995), archaeologist Judith Schuijf suggests that this fountain was part of a pre-Christian pagan cult site.
    This shows that Sevenum is much older than previously thought.
    The place name Sevenum or Sevenheym is of Frankish origin and the name probably originated in the sixth century, but the place itself was many times older.
    It already existed in Roman times and certainly witnessed the arrival of Christianity from the beginning. This adventure tour goes back to the beginnings of the freedom of Christianity, which became possible during the reign of Emperor Constantine (306-337). The guess is that this freedom was brought here by a Roman officer wearing the Golden Peel helmet studded with early Christian symbolism. Upon entering the church, the pilgrim places his hand on the pillar and contemplates the experiences gained along the way. The church and the adjoining Marienkapelle next to the main entrance are open day and night. In addition to many existing tourist routes, this is a completely new one; a historic Peel Route that everyone can experience in their own way. ..."
