Champtocé is a medieval castle (13th century), famous for having seen the birth there in 1405 of the comrade in arms of Joan of Arc, slash serial mass killer, Gilles de Rais (or Retz).
All that remains today are ruins, of which the single tower lets you imagine what this fortress was like with its... eleven towers at the time.
