This place has an impressive set of old lime kilns. (limestone site). Lime is obtained by calcining limestone at approximately 900°C.
These very imposing cylindrical ovens
The oven was fed by its opening located at the top (called the “mouth”) to which a ramp most often allowed access. The boilermakers alternated the beds of stone and coal to fill it to the maximum, and wood was brought to the foot of the building to ensure the ignition. The lime-burner then always had to maintain a temperature between 800°C and 1,000°C while keeping the oven filled to the maximum by replenishing it with limestone and also had to maintain the fire.
