The viaduct was built between 1914 and 1916 by the Royal Prussian State Railways by the Cassel Railway Directorate as part of the Wabern-Brilon-Wald railway line (in the Korbach section) that was completed on April 2, 1917 with the opening of the Willingen viaduct and thus the Usseln-Willingen section –Brilon Wald called Uplandbahn). After a temporary interruption from 1999 to 2003, it is still used for rail traffic today.
