Old Post Office Schwerin

The three-storey main post office in the historicizing Neo-Renaissance style, in an L-shape with two wings in what was then Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse, was built between 1892 and 1897 according to plans by the secret postal building officer Ernst Hake together with the architect Daegert. It has a rectangular, dominant seven-storey clock tower with an octagonal top, with a lantern and a pointed belfry.

The former main post office in Schwerin, also known as the Old Post Office, Altstadt district, Mecklenburgstraße 4/6 is a monument in Schwerin. From the 14th century there was a building of the bishop's residence. From 1821 to 1843 it was the headquarters of the artillery battery and a princely court. From 1846 to 1892 the three-storey old post office was here, which soon became too small for the increasing postal traffic.
