The climb is definitely worth it: the view is truly magnificent and the breath of history that surrounds you in this place can be felt with almost all of your senses.

After climbing the castle stairs you will be rewarded with a fabulous view of the city and the surrounding area. On the left you can see the former landgrave's office, which today houses the university's religious studies collection. Through the archway next to the guard's house you enter the castle square with the former blacksmith's shop, stables and armory and you can now see the castle in all its size. You can reach the museum via the inner courtyard. If you walk counterclockwise around the castle you get a nice view of the other part of the city. On the north side, a little below, is the Witch's Tower (1487), which temporarily served as a prison. The path leads over a stone bridge into the castle park, where parts of the former fortifications can still be seen. The underground casemates can be visited with a guided tour.

With all the enthusiasm for the castle during the day, I recommend enjoying the castle and the view on a clear (full) moonlit night. It's a lot quieter, not so busy and just as beautiful.
