Groß Niendorf lies in a flat landscape without any major elevations. The place is in the middle of the town square of Sternberg, Goldberg, Crivitz and Parchim.
The municipality of Groß Niendorf, which was independent until 2011, was administered by the Parchimer Umland office. It was the smallest and northernmost congregation in office. The districts of Groß Niendorf, Hohenpritzer settlement and Ruester settlement belonged to it.
From 2012 the community came as a district to Zölkow. The small town has about 230 inhabitants today.Sightseeing features:
Dorfkirche Groß Niendorf, small stone church without a tower, end of the 13th century. The bronze bell without an inscription was recast in 1878 and hangs in the free-standing belfry erected in 2015.
Small pond as the center of the village with water lilies and frogs. The pond is surrounded by willows.In 2007, part of the film Novemberkind, starring actress Anna Maria Mühe, was shot in Groß Niendorf.
