    Tips

    June 13, 2022

If you are out and about in the Brucker Moos, you need one thing above all: good shoes. The ground under fields and meadows is wet in many places, the water is mainly in those areas that have already been renatured, just below the surface. It has always been wet here in the valley between Bruck in the north and the Pausmühle in the south. Before farmers began to cultivate the area, that was around 1880, a high moor stretched over about 400 hectares. Source and further information

"Today, the Brucker Moos, with around 400 hectares, is one of the most important and valuable wetlands in Bavaria." writes Karin Pill in the Süddeutsche Zeitung from September 1, 2021.

"In the 19th century, the core area of the Brucker raised bog had shrunk to just six hectares. The characteristic habitat for animal and plant species became less and less due to tillage, intensified use and drainage. This continued until plants, birds and other creatures almost completely disappeared."

Through the pilot project "Ecological Land Reorganization Brucker Moos" in a close cooperation between the municipalities of Alxing, Bruck and Baiern, it was possible to "bring a large part of the moor into a coherent area association."

The area is closed to motor vehicles, but is ideal for hikers, walking, jogging and cycling. The path shown here leads right through the area. Many other paths - e.g. along the Moosach - allow you to explore the entire area.
