Garda is one of the best-known and most popular holiday resorts on the “Riviera degli Olivi”. The town is located in a beautiful bay on the Veronese coast of the lake and is 32 km from Verona. Garda borders the popular tourist destinations of Torri del Benaco and Bardolino and is overlooked by the “Rocca”, the ruins of an early medieval castle. Garda is the town that gave its name to the lake formerly known as Benàcus or Benàco. The name Garda comes from the German word “Warte” and refers to the fortress that was of great strategic importance in the Middle Ages.
