Hiking

The pagoda is a Buddhist stupa, it is one of about 80 peace pagodas worldwide. The stupa was built in 1982 and 1983 and is around 26 meters high. The central Buddha figure represents Buddha Shakyamuni, the 7 reliefs depict scenes from the life of the founder of the religion from birth, awakening through teaching to death.

The spiritual background is a vow made in December 1946 by the Japanese monk Nichidatsu Fujii (1885-1985) after the American atomic bombings of Hiroshima (August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945), to erect Peace Pagodas radiating positive forces around the world with the monks and nuns of his Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist order, which follows the Nichiren school (founded in 1924).
