An old church of medieval origin on the same site was completely demolished before 1715. In 1715 the hall church, which characterizes the town center today, was built. Baron Otto Heinrich von Friesen auf Rötha managed - and also financed a large part - the new building.

The rectangular nave with a square tower attached to the west side still had a stretcher room attached to the south side until about 1990. But it had to be demolished due to dilapidation.
