A Dutch windmill as a wood sawmill? How cool! 😎 I've never seen that in Germany!
July 8, 2022
De Jager was built in 1719 for Age Machiels Tromp and Jeanette Wilhelmina van Broekhuizen. By 1925 the mill was owned by Siebolt Nauta and Son, who went bankrupt in 1934. J Westerhof followed. In 1935 a sail was badly damaged and ended work with wind power. Until 1970 the mill was operated with electric motors, but the cap and the sails were removed around 1950 because the mill was no longer used due to motor drives. The mill was completely restored in 1975-76. A new canopy, windshaft, sail and platform were reinstalled. The wind wave came from a drainage mill in Kantes, Groningen, which had been demolished in January 1961. In 1965 the mill was sold to the Sun and Freedom Foundation. Further restorations were carried out in 1994 and also in 2008-2010. The mill is now owned by Stichting Houtzaagmolen De Jager, it is now a national monument!
FYI: There is another beautiful sawmill De Rat in Ijlst!
