The Josef-Vosen-Park is located on the Rur on the edge of the northern Düren district of Birkesdorf. Named after a former mayor, the facility was formerly known as Rurpark. It offers a playground, a barbecue hut and wide green areas.

Josef Vosen (born July 23, 1943 in Berlin-Reinickendorf; died August 21, 2012 in Nafplion, Greece[1]) was a German politician (SPD). He was mayor of Düren from 1984 to 1999 and was committed to both the reception of refugees and urban development. For his services, he was made an honorary citizen of this city in 2012.

        Honors

On February 1, 2005, Vosen was awarded the City of Düren's Ring of Honor. In September 2008, the twin town of Gradačac made Vosen an honorary citizen. On December 7, 2011, the Düren city council decided to appoint the former mayor as the eighth honorary citizen. Vosen received the award, which had not previously been presented for fifty years, on March 15, 2012.

In March 2013, the Düren city council decided to rename the Rurpark in Birkesdorf “Josef-Vosen-Park” after Düren’s honorary citizen. The name change took place on December 22, 2013.
