Domo Parrocchia San Giovanni Battista, Borgia

The mother church dedicated to St. John the Baptist is located in the large Piazza Ortona in the village of Borgia. The axis of the church has a north-south orientation and the main facade (north) leads to Piazza Ortone. The Latin Cross church has a transept and three naves about 19.15 m long, with the central one being about 9.5 m wide and the lateral one being about 4.5 m wide. The overall width of the transept is about 23 m, with a depth of about 7.9 m. Finally, the straight apse, which houses the old high altar, is about 8.1 m deep and about 8.7 m wide. From the outside, the width of the church is about 23 m for a depth of about 32 m, to which is added the projection of the apse. The church is integrated into a single block that includes the sacristy rooms, positioned in continuity with the west nave on the south side of the church, while the other side is occupied by the Church of the Immaculate, facing east, in continuity of the east nave itself. The central nave is covered by a barrel vault, while the side ones are covered by domes, except for the central one of access to the side aisles, which is covered by a cross vault. The three bays are punctuated by columns enriched with pilasters with capitals and a false marble base. A cornice with Neoclassical mouldings, painted with gilded stucco, follows the entire nave in continuum. At the end of the nave is an important triumphal arch on the presbytery area. The nave ends with a straight apse covered by a barrel vault. The presbytery area is covered by a large dome, while the wings of the transept are always arched. Large semicircular arches separate the naves and imitation marble pilasters decorate the columns and a rich stucco decoration embellishes the interior of the factory. The facade, covered with a sandstone cladding, is characterized by the neoclassical style, with a gabled roof closed by two bell towers, the eastern one of which is lower and incomplete. The bell tower is accessed via a spiral stone staircase, each step monolithically carved. These stairs also lead to the roof structure made of wooden trusses. On the facade there are three portals leading to the three naves of the church. The block that includes the church contains the Church of the Immaculate on the east front, on the west front: the sacristy on the ground floor and the priest's house on the first floor. These last structures, communicating with the church, are presented with reinforced concrete bills and a single ramp staircase connects the two floors of no architectural value with humble finishes
