The building was erected under Prince Alois I of Liechtenstein from 1805 to 1811, a time when the palace park was transformed into an English landscape park. The aqueduct starts from a hill artificially built out of rocks, in which there is a cave. From here it led the water over eight arches to the edge of the castle pond, into which the water poured itself with a waterfall.

On the Grotto Island there is an aqueduct, which used to serve as a waterfall. The building was supplemented by a grotto of artificially created rock walls (unfortunately not accessible).
