The bronze statue of the hoop maker, crafted by Gerald Hildenbrand, commemorates the extinct profession of hoop maker. Wooden barrel hoops were made from hazel bushes, or less frequently from birch or linden. These were fitted onto the barrel without the use of nails and were used where iron could not be employed.
