"A church is mentioned in the chronicle as early as 1346. In 1865 the old church was demolished, leaving only the tower walls. The new building was consecrated as St. Mary's in 1866 and can accommodate around 600 people. It is an early example of a Recourse to medieval architectural forms Unfortunately, the Silbermann organ was sold in the course of the demolition, the new church received an organ from the Bärmig company (Werdau / Vogtland). The original altar with the painting "Entombment of Christ" (Professor Schönherr, Dresden) from 1877 now consists only of a simple stone table. The painting can be viewed in the aisle. In the years 2005 - 2007 the exterior of the St. Marienkirche was completely renovated. So it now shines in new splendor, visible from afar, additionally illuminated during the Advent and Christmas season." - marienkirchgemeinde.de/kirche-etzdorf
