The domain of Brialmont is said to have been founded by Eustache de Hamal, but from 1361 onwards the de Brialmont family is mentioned as the owner of the castle. Since the thirteenth century, the building has proudly looked out from its steep rocks over the valley of the Ourthe and the picturesque village of Tilff. The imposing building was redesigned to meet the needs of the nuns and became the Notre-Dame de Brialmont Abbey in 1961.
