The Taccani power plant is located along the course of the Adda river, inside the Adda Nord Park, at the base of the rocky promontory at the top of which remain the ruins of the castle built in 1370 by Barnabò Visconti, on the remains of a previous Lombard structure.

The plant, built between 1903 and 1906, was built by the architect Gaetano Moretti who received the commission from the industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi (1833-1920), owner of a famous cotton industry and founder of the village of Crespi d'Adda ( today a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Moretti was commissioned to build a hydroelectric plant that would supply energy to the cotton mill, but at the same time be well integrated into the environmental context.

Thus it was that Moretti, using the local stone called "ceppo dell'Adda" and recalling the vertical modules from the Visconti tower above, succeeded in creating a work of great compositional harmony, perfectly integrated into the river environment against the backdrop of the ruins of the castle medieval.

The technical works of the plant were entrusted to engineers Adolfo Covi, Alessandro Taccani and Oreste Simonatti.

The Trezzo hydroelectric power station constituted, for the time, a true "energy hub" as it included not only the hydroelectric section with ten generators providing a power of 10,000 kW, but also a thermoelectric section with four steam generators with a total power of 4,000 kW intended to integrate hydroelectric production during the winter lows of the Adda river.
