The Banter fishing village is a collection of mobile fishing huts on the Banter Sea dike in Wilhelmshaven. The fishing village was founded in 1908 after the construction of the new Banter sea dike to expand the war port to the south. Simple extended families from the Banter workers' settlement mostly practiced fishing here as a hobby in order to earn extra income or to meet the food needs of the often large families (5−10 children). The initially simple wooden huts with coal stoves served as a starting point for fishing with small rowing boats on the Jade Bay.
