The Neuender St. Jakobi Church was originally built around 1383 as a castle chapel in the nearby Siebetsburg, directly behind a southern dike of the Maade Bay, which was still open and navigable at the time.
The baptismal font made of gray sandstone probably comes from a previous church that was destroyed by a storm surge in the 14th century. It is now the oldest piece of inventory and was probably created around 1260 by an unknown stonemason.translated by
