The place name "Kwade Wegen" is found on historical maps, including the Fricx maps from 1712. The term "Kwade" in "Kwade Wegen" refers to plots that were difficult to cultivate, especially if they were overgrown with weeds or if they involved swampy meadows that were densely covered with woody vegetation.

The Kwadewegenstraat is linked to Brussels and Brabant history. On Maundy Thursday of the year 1388, the renowned Brussels alderman Everaard 't Serclaes was fatally wounded here. You know him from the bronze statue on the Brussels Grand Place that many people rub to get good luck. As lord of Kruikenburg, he was an important magistrate and counselor of the Brabant Duchess Johanna and had fiercely opposed the expansion plans of Sweder van Abcoude. This Gaasbeek castle lord wanted to expand his area. He had succeeded in purchasing land from the Rode meierij in an unjust manner. The Brabant duchess and the people of Brussels were not at all pleased with such a neighbor. During a horseback ride, Everaard 't Serclaes was ambushed at this location by accomplices of the Gaasbeek lord of the castle. His foot was cut off and his tongue torn out. Random walkers found the unfortunate man and had him transferred to Brussels, where he succumbed to his injuries in the De Sterre house on the Grote Markt. The monument now stands there. Everaard t'Serclaes, as lord of Ternat and Kruikenburg, was buried there in the church opposite the castle.
