The Piaseczno Canal was dug in the years 1717–1726 on the orders of August II the Strong, who at that time leased the Ujazdów area from the Lubomirskis as his suburban residence. It was modeled on the canal in Versailles. The work on the canal's construction was supervised by military engineers General Burkhard Christoph Münnich and Colonel Krzysztof d'Isebrandt.
