Tenerife Insider Tips

Insider Tip #1:
The visitor’s center is definitely a place to stop. If only for the clean and numerous toilets next to the center, LOL. Actually a very good point, as there are not many toilet facilities around the Teide National Park. Meaning that one can encounter the typical white (-ish) handkerchiefs behind bushes, thus ruining the landscape. So, before you start your hike and/or visit to the center: use these facilities wisely and:

“Take only memories, leave only footprints”

As for the center: It gives you an excellent idea on how the area of Mount Teide came to be. Through pictures, scale models and an excellent short film you will definitely look at the National Park with other eyes after you have visited the center.

At the entrance of the Visitors Center, the friendly staff will give you a free map of the area, with most of the highlights of the National Park, such as hiking tours, Flora&Fauna and some stunning pictures.

Insider Tip # 2:
Behind the Visitors Center you will find an indication to the La Fortaleza hike. At the entrance of the hike, there is a sign, stating that on Monday, Wednesday and Friday the hiking trail is closed due to Moufflon control (meaning there will be hunters around during those days). Although I don’t believe this is all year around, it is something to take into account. Better to plan you hiking trips on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday, just to make sure.
