Natural disasters are life-threatening and they stir up emotions. In 1618, a landslide caused a stir that destroyed the small town of Plurs/ital. Piuro in the upper Bergell valley in Graubünden completely destroyed. The site was and is below Monte Conto, whose rich deposits of Lavezstein, a soft and refractory slate, were extensively mined for centuries.
