    Church of San Giuseppe

The church dedicated to San Giuseppe is a small building located along the old road to Sannicandro, developed around an ancient aedicule. The foundation of the church is surrounded by an aura of legend, which would see the protagonist of the count Giangirolamo d'Aragona, known as Guercio di Puglia. On one of his journeys (about 1646), from Acquaviva to Bitonto, he crossed Bitetto along the old road of Sannicandro, as soon as he passed the convent of the Dominican Fathers, right in front of the garden of the canon Don Filippo de Specie, was thrown from his horse running a serious risk for his life.

Having escaped the misfortune, the count reported having been miraculously miraculous by the Madonna, whose image was frescoed on a wall facing the place where he had fallen; it was a small aedicule, in which the effigy of the Virgin was painted with the figure of her devotee: a canon named Philip. As an act of gratitude, the count had the small church built which, in 1818, was dedicated to San Giuseppe. The ancient fresco of the Virgin, dating back to the seventeenth century and of which the legend speaks, was incorporated in a reliquary in the center of the main altar.
