Peat was mined here until 1977. Some relics of that time can still be seen today, such as the old peat works. The effects of this overexploitation and the draining of the felt have now been remedied on 0.165 square kilometers through renaturation (completion 2019). 40 percent of the moor forest has been preserved and the drainage ditches have been filled. A wooden dam now leads through the area and is a bit adventurous.
