Construction began in the 12th century, initially as a court chapel and without a west tower. About 1300 parish church.
In 1846 the church received a relic of Saint Odilia from her burial place in the Odilienberg monastery in Alsace.
Odilia is revered as the patron saint of Alsace and eyesight.
After a planned demolition of the church, the original Romanesque building was reconstructed between 1891 and 1893 and a large west building with a tower, transept and vestibule in neo-Romanesque forms was added.
