The first pumping station at this location, together with the De Cruquius and De Leeghwater pumping stations, pumped the Haarlemmermeer dry in the period 1849-1852. Modernized several times in the meantime, the old pumping station was taken out of service in 2005 and placed under monument protection.

The first pumping station was put into operation in 1849. Together with the De Cruquius and De Leeghwater pumping stations, it pumped the Haarlemmermeer dry from 1849 to 1852.The pumping station and the village are named after Frans Godert van Lynden van Hemmen (1761-1845), a politician who, like the namesakes of De Cruquius and De Leeghwater, developed a plan to reclaim the Haarlemmermeer. In 1821 he published the book 'Treatise on the Droogmaking of the Haarlemmer-Meer', which contained detailed plans that ultimately formed the basis for the actual reclamation. The De Lynden pumping station has been modernized several times. The new De Lynden pumping station was built next to the original building, which has replaced the old pumping station since 2005. The building of the old pumping station is a listed monument and was built in neo-Gothic style.
