The industrial monument De Lynden pumping station was put into operation in 1849. This pumping station was equipped with a 360 hp steam engine and eight piston pumps. Over the years, the pumping station has been regularly rebuilt and modernized. The steam boilers were replaced in 1878 and later the original steam drive was replaced by two steam-driven centrifugal pumps. Together with the De Cruquius and De Leeghwater pumping stations, the Haarlemmermeer was drained between 1849 and 1852. In 2005 it was decommissioned and replaced by a new pumping station. Next to the original building is the new De Lynden pumping station, which opened in October 2005.

The old pumping station, built in the neo-Gothic style, then stood empty, so BOEi devoted itself to the restoration and reuse of this industrial heritage.

On March 2, 2015, Ronald and Tamara Kunis opened the doors of the restored boiler house and the Bij Qunis restaurant became a reality.

The pumping station and the village of Lijnden (around the pumping station) are named after Frans Godert van Lynden van Hemmen (1761-1845), a politician who, like the namesakes De Cruquius and De Leeghwater, developed a plan to drain the Haarlemmermeer.

      The restaurant

Ronald Kunis has worked in various (star) restaurants in London and New York in recent years. Before starting his adventure in Lijnden, he worked as a chef at Restaurant De Kas in Amsterdam.

The cuisine of the Bij Qunis restaurant focuses on vegetables, preferably from their own garden. Vegetarians and vegans are sure to find what they are looking for in the Bij Qunis restaurant. In addition, we work a lot with local (seasonal) products. Fresh products, quality on the plate and in the glass, that's what matters at Qunis.

The restaurant Bij Qunis is recommended by Michelin critics with 9.4 out of 10 points and offers take-away as well as meals in the restaurant.
