The Church of Our Lady of Ascension is a parish church in the municipality of Wuustwezel. A first Gothic church was built between 1225 and 1250, on the site of a wooden church dedicated to Saint Lambertus, apostle of the Campine, since 1221. This church was replaced in 1485 by a larger building, which was adapted in the 18th century and enlarged in the neo-Gothic sense in 1899 and 1900, including a new transept. The spire as well as part of the western part were rebuilt in 1941-43 after destruction in 1940.

The first church on the site, originally dedicated to Saint Lambert and since the 15th century to Our Lady, is said to have been built between 1225 and 1250; this was replaced in the 15th-16th century by a larger church, which in turn was adapted in the 18th century and enlarged in 1899-1900 and almost completely renovated by the architect Jules Bilmeyer; spire and western part of the church were destroyed in 1940 and rebuilt in 1941-43.

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Wuustwezel-Centrum was classified as a monument in 2005. The Heritage Agency judged that the building deserved protection primarily for its artistic value as a fine example of neo-Gothic. The church also has very valuable art collections such as the two wooden altarpieces and two statues by Mathieu Kessels that are on the Flemish Top Pieces List. In addition, this church is historically valuable as a 19th century building by the architect Jules Bilmeyer with a rich history dating back to the 13th century.
