The copper houses developed in 1930 by the company "Hirsch Kupfer- und Messingwerke AG Eberswalde-Finow" were the first all-copper houses made of prefabricated elements. Experiments to develop prefabricated Kupferhaus building elements began in 1930 after the family had acquired the rights to the "box-frame system" invented by Friedrich Förster and Robert Krafft. In order to test the houses and the materials used for weather resistance and living comfort, seven model houses were built next to the brass factory in addition to the factory settlement in 1930/31, in which factory employees lived there on a trial basis. After a short test phase, marketing began: in a catalog from 1931, six house types of different sizes were offered under euphonious names such as "Kupfercastell", "Juwel" or "Frühlingstraum". A house should cost about 10,900 RM and can be erected by six workers within 24 hours. All the copper houses in the model house settlement are still intact, but two have been built over with new gabled roofs, windows and facade cladding in such a way that their original appearance can only be guessed at. The others are easily recognizable because of their striking copper plate facades, which vary between gold-brown and black. A total of 20 houses were built in series production, mostly in space. In 1932, Hirsch Kupfer und Messingwerke AG went bankrupt, but was continued as Kupferhaus GmbH until it was finally closed in 1934.

Due to the emigration wave of German Jews to Palestine during the Nazi era, the need for living space increased there, as did the interest in prefabricated houses that were suitable for export to Palestine. The Deutsche Kupferhausgesellschaft reacted immediately and from then on copper house types with the names "Haifa", "Jerusalem" or "Sharon" appeared in their prospectuses. By the end of 1933, the first of 14 houses near Tel Aviv and Haifa were ready for occupancy. Source: db-bauzeitung.de/architektur/in-die-years-come-kupferhaeuser/#slider-intro-6
