The Heuneburg is considered the oldest city north of the Alps. Around 600 BC, around 5,000 people lived here, which is quite a number for the time. In addition, the city was an important trading hub, with trade going as far as southern Italy or Marseille - the sun-spoiled wine from the southern provinces was of course particularly popular. Today you can rediscover the Heuneburg hillside settlement in a unique open-air museum with various reconstructions.

      Heuneburg - City of Pyrenees
MOST IMPORTANT CELTIC ACROPOLIS IN EUROPE
      SOUTHERN SETTLEMENT AND OUTSIDE FORTIFICATION
There are two early Celtic settlements on the ridge between the Danube and Soppenbachtal. These were in the late 7th century BC. Chr. emerged together with the Heuneburg. Station four marks the former location of the so-called Südsiedlung. On the way in the direction of Heuneburg, the hiking trail leads past the remains of an angular moat and wall that, with a length of 70 metres, served as additional protection for the main attack side of the Heuneburg.
