Ice cream was a popular way to cool down on hot days, even among our ancestors. Snow or natural ice is said to have been used to cool drinks in China as early as 3000 BC. Alexander the Great (356 to 323 BC) had mountain snow and glacier ice mixed with wine, honey, fruit juice or milk to feed his soldiers in order to keep them happy on his campaigns. The Roman Emperor Nero (52 AD) also appreciated the cool delicacy. He had ice cream made from the mountains with lemons, oranges and spices such as cinnamon, ginger and rose water
