It is not entirely clear when Huis Te Echten was built, but it is suspected that this was in the 14th or 15th century. What we do know for sure is that the house was extensively renovated in the early 19th century, which more or less formed the basis for the structure as it stands today. People lived in the house until 1971. Today it functions as a workplace for people with a visual or intellectual disability.

The historic estate of Echten is located on the eastern edge of the village of the same name in the stream valley of the Oude Diep or Echtenerstroom, which runs along the eastern edge of the estate. Already in the 14th century there is talk of a Hofstat of one Volker van Echten. However, it is not certain whether this Hofstat was the later Huis te Echten. Traces have been found in the current house, which probably date from the 15th century. Huize Echten is only accessible during Open Monument Day. openmonumentendag.nl/monument/huize-echten-te-echten
