Piazza Eroe dei Due Mondi (formerly Piazza Garibaldi), once Piazza dell'Indipendenza, was formerly nicknamed "Piazza del Bivacco", testifying to the fact that for centuries the Orbetellans have loved to walk, stop and chat in the square and in the adjacent streets. On the building that dominates it stands the Clock Tower 25 meters high, with a bell inside and under the clock, there is the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, which today also gives it its name. The square is bordered by an old newspaper kiosk, built in 1906 (then modernized in 1967) and by many shops of historical origin, such as the Cosana Pharmacy, which was born in 1830, or the Caffè del Lucchese, open all night, where the brigand Tiburzi also went. Until 1927 a fountain was also admirable, built by the Lorraine family. Then, precisely in 1927, the fountain was moved to the Idroscalo, from where it mysteriously disappeared into thin air during the years of the last world war.
