Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve

Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve, a protected area in the Maremma that separates the Orbetello lagoon from the sea.

A couple of kilometers before entering Porto Ercole, follow the signs for Feniglia beach, leave the car and continue on foot or by bicycle to access the Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve. It is a 6-kilometre long dune and separates the open sea from the eastern lagoon of Orbetello.

It is an ideal area for running, walking or cycling in the middle of this lush, green space. On the hottest days the pine trees offer some cooling shade. At regular intervals, there are paths that lead directly to the beach.

The area facing the lagoon has numerous huts available for ornithological observation. There is also a nature trail for the blind with a handrail and olfactory and tactile stations.

The vegetation is composed of maritime pines, stone pines, cork oaks, holm oaks, sea lilies, junipers and shrubs of the Mediterranean maquis.

The flora consists of many fallow deer, some wild boars, foxes, badgers, weasels and other rodents. Finally, the avifauna counts very many species.
