It was built in 1722 in honor of Prince Eugene of Savoy's victorious campaign against the Turks after the famous Battle of Senta on September 11, 1697. Topolje is the seat of the Parish of St. Peter and Paul the Apostles, founded in 1247 and restored in 1775, which belongs to the Barany deanery of the Diocese of Đakovo and Srijem. Outside Topolje is the parish church of St. Peter and Paul the Apostle, built in 1722, and the church of St. Mark the Evangelist, built in 1890.
