The Fort Biehler is part of the former fortress Mainz. It was built in the years 1880 to 1884 as Fort Petersberg. On April 30, 1885, it was renamed Fort Biehler in honor of the retired chief of the Prussian engineering corps Hans Alexis von Biehler a year earlier. The plant corresponds to the named after him Biehler Fort or Einheitsfort. The festival is the last major work, which was built to strengthen the fortress Mainz.
