In 1831 the forest house was built in the Steinwald nature park and from 1837 the forest warden at the time, Baptist Zimmerer, set up a guest room as a side income. Today's forest house was built in 1898, but the last inhabitant of the forest house left the forest house in 1959. In 1997, the Waldhaus suddenly came back into the public eye. In the filming of "Krambambuli", a Bovelle by Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, it served as a filming location. In 2012, the forest house was converted into an information center with a small restaurant as part of the Steinwald Alliance.
