The monastery is located on a clifftop promontory above the Tskalzitela River. It is accessible only by foot. The site was of strategic importance early on, so much so that defensive fortifications existed here even before the monastery was built. Today, the monastery is a popular pilgrimage and wedding destination.

Hiking

In fact it's a monastery, as the name says. :) It is situated wonderfully upon a hill, surrounded by a wild river and natural woods. Inside, you'll find a beautiful, roofed bridge with benches to enjoy the spectacular view, just before you'll come closer to a small church with relicts and a colourful ceiling, painted in great detail.
