On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm I, a memorial stone was erected here in 1897 and an oak tree was planted. At the turn of the century, the square was a popular meeting place for the population. On the right side of the slope is the lower Sammannstollen, named after its operators, the Gebr. Sammann. This tunnel was built in 1831/32 as a new headstocks. It was hoped, as is to be read in ancient writings, to win an excellent fire and blacksmith coal.
